A long time ago I had fabricated a basic cleaner from motors. This however is vastly superior for almost all tasks. I use it for my business, it’s already helped to recover dozens of tapes, especially: 8mm, VHS, Beta (including professional BetacamSP small size), even some of the obscure MII format. Having the extract is very important, do take that option. The back tension from the motor which is being pulled, is usually in the right order of things to assist even with mouldy 8mm tapes where the mould “glues” the tape together on the reel, though a bit of manual intervention may still be required.

There are other cleaners available but compared to this, they are all too primitive for professional use. Look no further.
